Echo: In the old world Pip was the smallest one in every room, and was told so often enough to believe it.
Now: Pip chose courage, one gold line at a time. Each line marks a moment Pip was scared and did the brave thing anyway.
Juicy tidbit: Pip has more gold lines than elders three times as old. Every Penwondertive Festival, Pip hides one scavenger hunt clue somewhere in Elibom, always meant for the youngest team.
Most Seamed-Echoes choose their Nows slowly. Pip's arrived one golden line at a time. The seam caught Pip young, with a paper patch still stitched over one cheek where the old world had left its mark. Pip could have stayed small. Instead, every time fear showed up, Pip did the brave thing anyway, and a new gold line appeared. Gold is the color of the Guardian's Line, the line that asks for courage. Pip remembers exactly what it feels like to be the smallest one in a big new world and still choose to be brave.
